Leadership you can count on!

Zac’s Story

I’ll never forget the feeling of rock bottom I experienced in the ninth grade. My family had moved again. I was 14 and this was the 7th city I had lived in, and my fourth state. One of the problems with moving is that you need to introduce yourself to a whole new community, and as a teenager that’s tough. I also was less than impressive. I weighed 90 pounds and was nowhere near puberty yet. My mom took me to the new school to inquire about joining the freshman football team so I could meet some friends and they told me I couldn’t because I didn’t meet the minimum weight requirement. I also had the completely wrong look. Coming from Chicago, all my friends wore band tee shirts and skate shoes. In my new home of Tampa, it was all Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger. I had never even heard of those guys. So, I decided in that moment that I would take accountability for my life and come up with a plan to make the most of this one life I’ve been given. I set goals, big ones, and strategized on how to make them happen.

Over the next four years, I realized the power of intentionality and perseverance. I had some failures along the way but embraced them as the learning opportunity they were. I also cast my net of friendship and learning as wide as possible. I went to a large and extremely diverse school with over 2000 students. While most of the students stuck to one friend group, I decided it was more fun to interact with them all. I was one of the only Caucasian members of our incredible step team, I performed in our spring theatre production, I was an anchor on our school produced television show and also was a national honor society, class and student government officer. Upon graduation I was the homecoming king, prom king, athlete of the year, and a winner of both team and individual sports state championships in Florida’s largest classification. Who would have ever imagined that this tiny new kid who had the wrong look, wrong accent and wrong clothes, could change his situation so much in just a few short years? I did, and it’s what I love doing for young men today!

Upon graduation I left Sunny Florida and got a leadership scholarship at my dream University. It was there that I met my wife who I’ve been married to for 21 years. During my time in college, I secured internships at three large youth ministries in FL, TX and TN and earned the trust of my peer’s while being voted Student Association President. It was through these experiences that I decided to commit my life to pouring into the next generation of young people.

My journey of teaching, coaching, leading and supporting students and their families began in my early 20's, running a full-time student ministry as well as a local teen center. The student ministry grew over 500% during my time at the church.  I coached a local high school team during that span and enjoyed multiple top four finishes in the state as a team as well as the programs first individual state titles. During this time, I spoke in a dozen states and multiple countries to audiences ranging from small groups to over 5000 college students. The bulk of these were at schools, camps, conferences and universities.

In my 30's my family moved to our current location of Mobile AL with my wife's medical practice. We had twin sons and my life drastically improved for the better. I continued my work with students and families with the non-profit organization Young life and then was offered a job leading one of the four pillars in one of our region's top pre-k through 12 college preparatory schools. While there I directed the school’s spirituality program, was a member of the leadership council, taught a daily Service Leadership class for seniors, and coached a varsity team to 3 State championships. During my tenure the program grew from only six participants my first year to over 55 when I left. During that time, I was named the inaugural coach of the AHSAA all-star team and successfully ran one of the largest tournaments in the state of Alabama. My work on campus and in our community saw me recognized as one of Mobile's 40 under 40 community leaders.

As I began my forties, I was offered a position managing a nine-figure global enterprise account for a fortune 30 technology company. In my first year our account had its most successful year on record and beat our quota by over 200 million dollars. During this time, I won multiple contests and awards including account manager of the half. In the midst of this successful time, I realized that my real passion was educating and empowering students and families. I began the process of getting my life coaching certification and taking my 20 years of leadership experience and creating a program that helps the next generation of leaders develop a vision and goals for their future, along with an action plan to get there! As a parent of two sons going through their adolescent years, I understand both the beauty and the struggles of this stage of life. I’d be honored to join your family in this journey.
